Greensboro, NC: KGSO
For a great sampling of southern hospitality, land at Piedmont Triad International (CSO) and spend a couple of days in Greensboro, North Carolina. Numerous golf courses grace the region, and there are a nice mix of cultural and social diversions in the city as well.
For a more unusual excursion, visit the Bog Garden off Hobbs Road. This is a half-mile, elevated wooden walkway that provides access to more than 8,000 varieties of trees, shrubs, ferns, bamboo and wildflowers.
June is an especially active time for this area, as Greensboro hosts the State Games--a multi-sport, Olympic-style competition for North Carolinians of all ages and skill levels.
Through the Games, North Carolina Amateur Sports promotes physical fitness and health.
In the Olympic tradition, the top three finishers in each event receive gold, silver and bronze medals.
Walla Walla, WA: KALW
For a relaxing stop-over away from the hustleand-bustle of life, visit this quiet town of Walla Walla Washington. After you land at the Walla Walla Regional Airport (ALW), you can explore the one-square-mile Fort Walla Walla Museum, which details the region's turbulent history with native Americans from its construction in the 1850s, through to 1900.
There is also a children's museum in town, numerous antique and art galleries, or for a truly memorable experience, you visit the Blue Mountain Lavender Farm. This wonderful place is modeled after the lavender farms of Southern France, an island of color set against the greens and golds of the summer season. The farm offers private tours and sells a variety of lavender scented products for use at home. Other area activities include hiking, biking, golf, touring some of the many fine, local vineyards, and dining at one of the regions fine restaurants.
