Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada: CYFJ
Florida’s premier island resort offers luxury homes, oceanfront villas and fairway homes on championship golf courses.
Even though Spring has sprung, you can still enjoy some of the best winter sports in North America if you head north of the border to Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
You’ll find easy access to the Ville de Mont- Tremblanta quaint, European-style village nestled at the base of the mountainby landing at the Mont Tremblant International Airport (CYFJ).
Since its inception in 1939, this first-class ski destination has taken steps to capture an atmosphere consistent with the beauty of the striking landscape. In the process, Tremblant has become the top ski resort in the east year after year.
The mountain offers 94 trails and 600 acres of skiing terrain; snowboarders can also hit the slopes and show their moves on 18 acres of ramps, rails, jumps, moguls and an Olympic- caliber super pipe.
For a boutique hotel atmosphere, stay at the Le Westin Resort & Spa located in the beautiful village of Tremblant. The bilingual staff will help you enjoy your stay and the many activities available.
Those with energy left to burn can fill out a wild winter weekend with snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice climbing, dog sledding, sleigh rides, ice skating, tubing and cross-country skiing.
And don’t forget to bring your passports with you when you go. Americans returning from Canada now need to have a valid passport on hand when stopping at an airport of entry.
Amelia Island, FL: KCRG, KJAX
If you’re a tennis buff, the place to be in April is the Amelia Island Plantation, a 1,300-acre resort community that plays host to the Bausch & Lomb Women’s Tennis Championships.
You can get there from Craig Municipal Aiport (CRG), or Jacksonville International (JAX), and the Plantation will send a free shuttle to pick you up.
The Plantation once occupied all 5,000 acres of this 14-mile long by seven-mile wide island, which was once owned by Union Carbide.

Throughout its history, the Plantation has stuck to a theme of building in harmony with nature, which gives this resort its rustic feel while catering to every pleasure of each and every guest.
The Plantation features the Amelia Inn & Beach Club hotels, with 249 beach-front rooms, as well as a 418 villas ranging in style and layout from a standard hotel room to one-, two- or three-bedroom-villa suites.
Although the property is spread out, you can find your way around on foot, by bicycle, or using the resort shuttle system.
The resort boasts three 18-hole championship golf courses, the most enjoyable of which is the famed Long Point course. This 6,775-yard, par 72 course winds its way from grassy marshlands through a thick oak and pine forest before opening up on three breathtaking holes situated on dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
There is also a Ritz Carlton on the island, but those who know the area well know the best time can be had at the Plantation.
And of course, the best feature of the Plantation is its beach, where you can walk through the surf and collect sea shells, or catch the failing sun on a wind-swept balcony to the backdrop of pounding waves.
