Grand Sierra Resort
What happens when a resort company purchases the tired-yet beloved Reno Hilton and turns it into a world-class resort and spa complex? In a word, wow!
The Grand Sierra Resort is a fantastic venue from which to explore the entire Lake Tahoe region; from lakeside and golf activities during the warmer months, to skiing on some of the most challenging mountains in the country during the winter months.
There are more than 1,000 guest rooms in the resort, each measuring more than 425 square feet. If that seems a tad small, you can upgrade to one of their suites, each of which features a wet bar, a dining room that will seat eight people, and a luxurious living room, in addition to the bedroom.
For perhaps the most luxurious accommodations, you can purchase a condo at the top of the resort, cleverly named The Summit.
Each condo features fine Italian marble and the most spectacular mountain views in the area.
For activities, the resort has a 50-lane bowling alley with instructors on-hand to help polish your form, and in 2009, the resort’s water park will open, offering more than 150,000 square feet of liquid excitement.
Children of all ages will get a kick out of Fun Quest, a 40,000-square-foot video arcade that features more than $1 million in games and electronic equipment.
For gaming of an entirely different kind, check out the Grand Sierra Resort’s 100,000-squarefoot casino. There are table games ranging from blackjack to Pai Gow Poker and just about everything in between, and free instruction is available if you’d like to learn something new. If you can’t sit still, there are slot machines and video poker machines that range from penny games to $100.
