French Lick Resort-Casino & West Baden Springs Hotel
What began as a historic rivalry between two 19th-century resorts just a mile away from each other has today created one of the most exquisite places to find yourself, whether for a week-long summer vacation or a quick weekend away from the hectic affairs of everyday life.
The French Lick Resort and Casino, located about 50 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky, is a resort property that combines two of the regions most elegant and historic hotels—the French Lick Springs Hotel, and its rival, the breath-taking West Baden Springs Hotel—into one high-end luxury resort.
The West Baden Springs Hotel is of particular note because of its spectacular free-span dome, which soars 110 feet above the atrium floor and which was, at the time it was built, the largest free-span dome in the world.
The resorts were built in the late 1800s and celebrated a fierce rivalry as high-end resorts catering to the ultra-wealthy. Today, the resorts share a single owner, who has outfitted them with posh accommodations that will make you feel relaxed and pampered, in a fun, historic setting. You can visit the resort by flying into French Lick Municipal Airport (FRH).
The two hotels offer a total of 689 luxurious guest rooms, with modern furnishings and lush fabrics imported from all over the world. A total of 10 restaurants dot the property, with Sinclairs hilighting the menu at West Baden Springs, and the 1875 Steakhouse anchoring the menu at French Lick.
There are two 18-hole and one nine-hole golf courses on the property, a six-lane bowling alley, and two spasa 14,000-square-foot spa and indoor pool at the West Baden Springs two-story natatorium, and a 27,000-square-foot, full-service spa with 25 treatment rooms and a hair salon in the French Lick Springs Hotel.
