The Rosario Resort
Tucked amid Washington state's San Juan Islands is this beautiful little resort that some say is the pride of Orcas Island.
Set on 30 acres overlooking Cascade Bay, this elegant gem was built between 1906 and 1909, and boasts 116, wellappointed guest rooms, two outdoor pools, one indoor pool, a fitness center, and a world-class spa that will leave you feeling refreshed and alive.
Orcas Island is the largest of the San Juan Island chain, and the largest city on the Island is Eastsound, which is just a few minutes from the resort. On Saturdays, the town's County Park plays host to the Orcas Island Farmer's Market, where you can explore local produce as well as arts and crafts.
The centerpiece of the resort is the Moran Mansion, which was built in 1906 as a family retreat. It has a unique combination of nautical influences and Arts and Crafts styling, and is decorated with teak and mahogany.
The mansion is home to the resort's on-site art gallery, four restaurants, a boutique, lounge, and even a historic music room, which contains a 1,972 pipe organ and an original, 1900 Steinway grand piano.
Room rates range from $160 to $350 during the Spring, to $209 to $399 during the summer, and each room has a private patio or balcony that affords its guests with spectacular views of Cascade Bay. Many of the rooms also have fireplaces, and the resort is child-friendly.
The resort is within easy reach of the Orcas Island Airport (ORS), or it can be accessed by seaplane.
Summer activities include kayaking, sailing, hiking, diving, swimming in one of the resort's three swimming pools and cycling.
There is also a marina nearby with charter boats for fishing and whale watching.
