The Balboa Bay Club & Resort
One of the most exclusive, star-studded resorts on the west coast is right here in Newport Beach, California where, for nearly 60 years, everyone from John Wayne to Bob Hope has had a stay in one of this luxurious property's spacious suites.
The Italian Renaissance-style Balboa Bay Club and Resort recently underwent an extensive renovation, and its 160 rooms now average more than 500 square feet and feature stunning waterfront views, balconies, fine marble bathrooms and a host of other comforts.
The resort offers 10 suites, ranging in size and opulence from the two-bedroom Governor's suite, to the Presidential suite, which features three bedrooms, a dining room, a fireplace and a grand piano, all situated with fantastic views of the stunningly gorgeous Newport Bay.
Local activities run the gamut from swimming in the Balboa's Olympic-sized swimming pool, wading on the beach, boating and just walking the sun-drenched beach. Formal events that keep the locals hopping year-round include the Toshiba Senior Golf Classic, the Newport Beach Boat Show, the Long Beach Grand Prix, and the Newport Beach International Film Festival.
Best of all, this exclusive seaside hide-away is just seven miles from the John Wayne Airport (SNA).
On the resort property is a 17,000-square-foot, fully appointed spa featuring nine treatment rooms, a eucalyptus steam room, a dry sauna, and a relaxation lounge where you enjoy a crackling fire in the fireplace. The spa offers a full range of skin, body and massage therapies, including a special glycolic peppermint cream massage.

On-site dining options include the First Cabin restaurant, a California-inspired venue that overlooks the spectacular Long Beach harbor. The restaurant features appetizers such as seared polenta with morel, and Shiitake mushrooms in a light cognac cream sauce with parmesan crisp, and main courses that include Maryland crab-crusted sea bass, tenderloin tips, and wild mushroom ragout in a cabernet reduction.
To enjoy after-dinner drinks, live music and a little dancing, check out Duke's Place, a casual bar on the property that is dedicated to John Wayne, featuring a variety of tequila-based mixed drinks.
With so many peaceful and entertaining pleasures, it's no wonder the rich and famous have taken time out to enjoy the Balboa Bay Club & Resort overlooking the tranquil buzzing Newport Bay. And that's why we've selected this resort for this month's spotlight.
