The Resort At Grove Park Inn

There's no better place to learn the true meaning of relaxation than sitting on a hickory rocking chair enjoying a cool glass of iced tea and pondering the Blue Ridge mountains spread below you at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa

The Resort At Glade Springs
Founded in 1913 as a place for quiet respite from the outside world, the resort that once discouraged alcohol and turned off the water after 10:30 PM to avoid waking patrons during the night now offers family-friendly recreation in a comfortable, relaxed setting.

The stunning main building, crafted of local granite boulders weighing up to 10,000 pounds, hosts 142 of the resort's 510 luxuriously-appointed guest rooms. Two newer wings, the Sammons Wing and the Vanderbilt Wing, flank the main structure and round-out the guest accommodations.

The resort, which is just 25 miles from Asheville Regional Airport ( AVL), offers a wide range of healthy, outdoor activities that are designed to help you forget about the outside world and focus on relaxation.

The resort features a 6,700-yard, par-70 golf course that was designed by master course architect Donald Ross to mix an enjoyable game with some of the stunning vistas in the southeast. There is also a 50,000-square-foot Sports Complex that is home to six tennis courts (three indoors and three outdoors), exercise equipment, and a racquetball court.

Know of a great resort or hotel that makes for a perfect home away from home? If so, send us your feedback.

In 2001, the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa opened its on-site spa on the hillside directly beneath the main building. In addition to a number of different therapies, the spa features an inhalation room, sauna, waterfall whirlpools, a mineral pool, and even a lap pool if you exercise is your form of relaxation.

At dinner time, check out the Blue Ridge Dining
room in the Vanderbilt Wing, offering local favorites such as jumbo tiger shrimp served atop grits with a ham gravy, or a slow-roasted prime rib of pork, served with pan juices. Or for a more romantic meal, try the elegant, open-air Sunset Terrace off the main building, which pairs vintages from the Inn's extensive wine cellar with some of the finest dry-aged prime beef and fresh seafood available in the southeast.

The atmosphere of this wonderful place makes you want to melt away in the warmth of good ol' southern hospitality. You'll quickly realize why we picked the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa for this issue's resort spotlight.
