The Resort At Squaw Creek
Ski bums will find no better refuge than this winter wonderland nestled on 195 acres at the base of the mountains that surround Lake Tahoe.
With its 405 rooms and suites that include kitchens and fireplaces, the Resort At Squaw Creek offers world-class accommodations set against the backdrop of some of the best skiing in the United States.
For family getaways, there are even a small number of two-story, one- or two-bedroom suites that include a fireplace and a kitchen and can sleep up to eight people.
The resort provides shuttle service to and from Truckee Airport (KTRK), which is just 15 minutes away, for a small fee.
Squaw Valley, from which the resort gets its name, was home to the 1960 Winter Olympics, and the resort is a ski-in/ski-out venue that offers near-instant access to the mountain.
There are more than 4,300 acres of terrain that see an average of 450 inches of snow per year and can be accessed by 33 lifts. Because of its proximity to Lake Tahoe, the views from the top of the lifts are uniformly breathtaking, and you’ll want to linger and take photos before tackling the winding trails to the valley below.

Off the slopes, there is plenty to do at the resort. In addition to local boutique shops on the property, you can find shopping in nearby Truckee, or in South Lake Tahoe and Reno, both of which are reasonably close by.
And if you want to work away the stress of work or a long day skiing, check out the spa, which recently underwent a $1.4 million renovation.
There are four restaurants on the property. The two fine dining choices include Six Peaks Grille, offering a modern menu of steaks and seafood with spectacular views of the nearby mountains, or Ristorante Montagna, an eclectic mix of California and Italian cuisine that is open from Wednesday through Sunday. In addition to the on-property dining choices, there are a number of small, local restaurants that are open seasonally and offer outstanding cuisine paired with fine California wines.
