Topnotch at Stowe Resort & Spa

TopnotchEast Coast skiiers love Stowe, Vermont, and there may be no better place from which to enjoy it than the Topnotch Resort and Spa, a luxurious 120-acre property nestled in the Green Mountains near the Mt. Mansfield ski area.

Offering luxury accommodations, fine dining and classic spa treatments, Topnotch is open year round, with golf, hiking and leaf-peeping filling out the summer and autumn months. But this resort truly shines during the winter ski season, when winter sports allow guests some of the best skiing, snowboarding and snowmobile riding that Vermont has to offer.

TopnotchThe Topnotch Resort is minutes from Morrisville Stowe State (MVL), providing easy fly-in/fly-out access for pilots throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states.

Accommodations range from luxurious rooms that have been richly decorated in the style of a European country manor, to one- and two-bedroom suites, and even to two- and three-bedroom homes that can sleep six. Many of the suites and homes feature amenities ranging from hot tubs to fireplaces.

TopnotchThere are two dining choices on the Topnotch property. For the most romantic dinner, visit Maxwell’s, which offers an outstanding wine list, a broad menu including spa specialties, and panoramic views of the nearby Green Mountains. For casual dining at its best, be sure to visit the Buttertub Bistro, a stylish restaurant that offers finely prepared meals and an eclectic mix of sandwiches, soups and appetizers.

The resort is close to historic Stowe, so you’ll have no problem supplementing your on-site dining choices with local restaurants, followed by window shopping at the many fine local stores.

Stowe’s Alpine skiing offers 48 ski runs and of some of the best skiing in the area. For more peaceful pursuits, check out cross-country skiing, a sleigh ride, or plow through the snow on a 10-mile dog sled ride behind a team of Alaskan Huskies.

Know of a great resort or hotel that makes for a perfect home away from home? If so, send us your feedback.

To warm your bones after a chilly day in the snow, visit the resort’s heated indoor swimming pool and hot tub, or enjoy a spa treatment at the newly renovated, 35,000-square-foot spa. The Topnotch spa has been rated one of the top 10 spas in the country, offering 140 different soothing treatments in 30 treatment rooms.

For a winter vacation that is far from it all without being far from it all, you can’t go wrong at Topnotch. And that’s why it’s one of our picks for this issue’s Resort Spotlight.
