Pelican Beach Resort Hotel,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

At a cost of
$3 Land at Fort Lauderdale's Executive Airport (KFXE), rent a car, and drive east about six miles to the Atlantic Ocean and the Pelican Beach Resort Hotel. While no longer a spring-break mecca, Fort Lauderdale has become a hot spot and prime destination for snowbirds eager to escape winter.

Built in 2004, the Pelican Beach Resort is family owned and operated. Many guest amenities are offered along with the 180 over-sized guestrooms and suites. You can enjoy a spectacular sunrise on 500 feet of private beach, a Lazy River tube ride, two heated swimming pools, a fitness center, and attentive concierge service.

Hungry guests can choose the North Ocean Grill for good food and spectacular ocean views, or Postcards for poolside dining and libations. The Emporium Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor is guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth.

In between relaxing and rejuvenating at the resort, be sure to take advantage of all Fort Lauderdale has to offer. Water sports, land sports, shopping, and sightseeing are available and easily accessible. Children will enjoy the Museum of Discovery and Science, adults will enjoy Laffing Matterz Comedy Club, and everyone will enjoy an Everglades Airboat Ride. History buffs can get a glimpse of early Fort Lauderdale by touring the Bonnet House, Stranahan House, and Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum. Trendy boutiques along fashionable Las Olas Boulevard will please the most discerning shopper and Sawgrass Mills, Florida's largest retail and entertainment center, is about 11 miles to the west.

Be sure to leave time to get out on the city's 300 miles of inland waterways and see why Fort Lauderdale is known as the Venice of the Americas and the yachting capital of the world. Rent a boat, canoe, kayak, jet-ski, or catch the water bus to cruise past waterfront mansions, megayachts, and a variety of "dock and dine" establishments.

After a full day of sun and sightseeing, return to the resort and pull up a rocker on the veranda. Breathe in the salt air, watch the waves lapping onto the shore, and think about your friends up north.
