The Season For Passionate Skies
Autumn in the northeast is one of the most passionate and exciting times of year. It’s a wonderful transition between the warm, lazy days of summer and the brisk, frenetic pace of winter. The clouds that decorate the Autumn skies tell the whole tale in magical blue and white.
As a practical matter, Autumn is no more difficult a time to fly than any other. Thunderstorms can still be a concern, turning into icing concerns as the months trod toward winter.
But what makes this time of year so special for aviators is the excitement that can be found in the skies. Cloud formations are boisterous and well-defined. VFR flying easy and IFR simply means popping in-and-out of harmless build-ups. The air is cool, the leaves are slowly losing their green to the many water colors of Autumn, and the sunsets are just brilliant.
Better still, the sun sets earlier, which means you can enjoy the glory of the setting sun from the air, land, and still get home in time for dinner and a game of cards in front of a crackling fire.
