Time For Our MPC (Magazine Proficiency Check)
One of the reasons instrument-rated pilots are sometimes required to undergo an annual Instrument Proficiency Check, or IPC, is to make sure that they actually know what they think they know.
Pilots, like most people, get into a rut of doing the same things over and over again until they have a certain bag of tricks that they rely on to handle just about every situation. The purpose of an IPC is to test the pilot's basic instrument skills and to make sure that the full range of basic skills isn't forgotten or lost.
Magazines, including this one, also undergo periodic proficiency checks designed to see if they are doing what they, in fact, set out to do. These checks can come in many forms, from focus groups, to town hall-style meetings, to print or online surveys.
This year, we are undertaking our second annual check, in the form of our second online reader survey. Not only will your answers help us develop timely and interesting content in future issues, but you'll also have a chance to win fun and exciting prizes.
What kind of prizes, you ask?
One lucky winner will with a two-night, VIP "Stay and Play" package on the blissfully relaxing Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia. One lucky winner and a guest will spend two nights at the luxurious Jekyll Island Hotel, with complementary golf, mini-golf, tours of the National Historic Landmark District, all-day bicycle rentals, tennis court and water park passes.
If you don't win that, stand by. Telex has graciously donated a his-and-hers pair (meaning, two separate headsets, not two ears) of their impressive Stratus 50-D headsets. The Stratus 50-D leads the industry in comfort and noise reduction, and it's clever color scheme is a favorite among flying couples everywhere.
Getting dizzy from all the excitement? A third lucky winner will be able to cruise the altitudes with ease using a new portable Oxygen system from SkyOx, the recognized leader in portable oxygen systems.
So don't just sit there drooling about great places to fish. Run to your computer and log on to aviatorsguide.com/survey/ and help us make this magazine - your magazine - better than ever.
We look forward to hearing from you!
