Perspectives
1...2...3...Say Cheese!
It may well be that we created a monster.
Three years ago when we launched this magazine, we introduced a section called "Lasting Image." We knew that taking great pictures was a big part of the fun of general aviation travel, and we wanted to give our readers a place to post their photos.
On our Web site, we built an online photo gallery in which pilots could upload a digital photo and have it voted on by other readers of our magazine. Then each issue, the photo with the most votes appears on the last page of our magazine.
From the start, we received incredible photos of historic airplanes in flight or on the ramp, their brilliantly-restored colors contrasting against all types of skies. Within months, someone had posted the first of what we call a "kid shot." Over the last few months, our online gallery seems to be overrun with kid shots. Its as if there has been an explosion in the number of pilots with cute, frecklyfaced kids helping mommy or daddy fly the airplane.
We founded this magazine because we knew that flying was not just about the pilot and the airplane, but about the special types of people who travel in this unique manner. We wanted to focus on the families and couples taking great adventures across the country, or just taking a trip up the coast for a romantic weekend.
Judging from the photos in our online gallery, you do too. We appreciate the photos, we thank you for sending them in. If you havent had a chance to stop by our online photo gallery, please do. It will really make you feel good about the types of people you have flying around the skies with you.
Now if youd like to see your photo on the cover of our magazine, we can arrange that as well. Our friends at Columbia Aircraft are generously sponsoring cover shots at three major air shows this year, and the first will be at Sun 'n Fun in Lakeland.
Just stop by the Columbia Aircraft static display and we'll take your picture and put it on a commemorative cover of Aviator's Guide that you can take home with you.
Thanks for helping us make this a great year. And if youve got some photos you want to share, remember to visit us online at aviatorsguide.com.
