Perspectives

For us, flying is a team effort. Maybe only one of us has the license and maybe only one of us is legally responsible for the flight. But whether it’s spotting traffic or writing down frequencies hurled at us by ATC, we work together to ensure a fun, safe flight.

And it is work. Sure, we could hop on an airline and sit in the back enjoying a good book, not knowing or caring what goes on up front. But that’s just not for us. We relish the challenge of planning our own adventures, of pulling into an FBO at the end of a long day, hoping we’ll discover a great hotel with an exquisite restaurant.

We fly because it gives us control and freedom at the same time. It gives us a view of the world and the people in it that is both timeless and unique.

Aviation is a rare combination of lifestyle and addiction that, if it’s done right, will involve your entire family and give you years of pleasurable experiences only dreamed of by the masses who have to show up three hours before their scheduled commercial flight.

This magazine is for people who live that special life. Aviator’s Guide is meant to be enjoyed by all members of the general aviation family, not just the pilot, because we realize that flying isn’t just about technology or technique. Flying is also about ways to use an airplane to travel and enjoy life with your family and friends, and that’s the part of aviation that we will focus on.

And this isn’t just a one-way enterprise. We not only want you to enjoy Aviator’s Guide, we want you to be part of it.

In addition to the print magazine that you hold in your hands, we’ve developed a comprehensive web site that adds interactive features to our original content, giving you powerful new ways to interact with your fellow GA travelers and with us. We’ve also added interactive tools to our site that will help you plan and prepare for your travels more efficiently.

We want Aviator’s Guide to be a complete resource for the general aviation family, from deciding where to go, to figuring out what to pack and how to get there in greater comfort.

This premier issue represents the first leg of what we hope will be a long and happy journey together. So be sure and do your part. Visit us on the Internet and help us make this magazine your magazine. Because flying is a challenge. But it’s also meant to be fun.
