The Tiger
If youre a non-pilot interested in learning to fly, buying a Tiger is probably the easiest decision you could ever make. But its no less tempting if you already have your ticket and want a fun, fast four-seater that makes you feel good every time you pull it out of your hangar.
The Tiger is no pared-down, bargain-basement aircraft. Its 180 HP Lycoming engine pulls a respectable 900 lbs. of useful load at a cruise speed of 143 KTS.
Thats good enough for a family of four with overnight bags. It also carries more and goes faster than the Cessna 172, earning the Tiger its stripes as a true cross-country machine.
The Tiger airframe was designed by engineers at Grumman, makers of fine airplanes that are used to hunt and kill. The Grumman team had fun using fighter plane technology to build an agile general aviation aircraft, and through the years (and several owners), the Tiger has maintained its fighter-plane heritage.
The plane has a strong aluminum pass-through spar supporting the wings, and its passenger cabin is built with a honey-comb aluminum material that is strong, yet lightweight.
Most joints are bonded rather than riveted, giving the Tiger the same crisp aerodynamic characteristics enjoyed by composite airplanes.
Add it all up, and youve got a tough, reliable airplane that looks great on the ramp and is a joy to fly.
The Tigers leather seats are easy to clean and a sliding canopy provides excellent visibility on long flights. Its also relatively easy for elderly and handicapped passengers to board simply by stepping up onto the wing and then down into the cabin.
The IFR-certified avionics are excellent for an airplane priced at less than $240,000, and include two center-mounted Garmin 430s and an auto-pilot, making it a reliable, get-there machine in most kinds of weather.

Tigers aggressive marketing program has added two features that make a great deal for a terrific airplane even better.
If youre not yet flying, Tiger will provide training for your private pilot certificate--in your new Tiger, of course--at no cost. And all new owners receive a complete, spinner-to-tail customer-care package that means you pay only for gas during the first year of operation. The company even covers the cost of oil changes and your first annual.
Thats a deal thats hard to beat.
