About the Saratoga II TC

There is something about this quintessential, single-engine six-seater that makes the Piper Saratoga a favorite among GA families even as the

manufacturer focuses its efforts on a revise of the Cherokee Six line.

The Saratoga II TC, which is actually a descendant of the original Cherokee Six, is a true cross-country machine, able to carry 1,100 pounds of people and cargo at a reasonable 187 Kts from New York to Orlando without stopping for fuel.

This airplane’s base price of just under $490,000 makes it one of the more expensive singles on the market, but with luxurious appointments and a roomy interior, this airplane still feels well-worth the investment. The II TC is the turbocharged version of the Saratoga, which provides for a higher service ceiling, faster climb to that ceiling, and greater speed.

Standard avionics include a Garmin 530 and 430, a dual axis, S-TEC System 55 autopilot, as well as a an electrically-driven, stand-by vacuum pump. Optional avionics include an Avidyne FlightMax Entegra system for primary flight or multi-function display, air conditioning, and an installed oxygen system.

While not the flashiest machine on the market, this airplane is easily one of the more desirable cross-country airplanes in the venerable Piper line. Pilots upgrading from Warrior or Archer aircraft find the Saratoga a welcome treat.

Owners report that it’s an ideal spot for mid-air picnics, doing paperwork or playing cards. The cabin is designed with two cabin fresh air vents, six-individually controlled overhead and four individually controlled floor mounted vents.

The rear pair of seats features quick-release connectors so they can be easily removed to accommodate bulky items.
Forward and rear storage compartments give you the ability to balance weight for efficiency and safety.

It’s easy to see why for so many pilots, the Saratoga II TC remains, the ideal mode of transportation. It’s fast, safe and sexy to look at. And all of that combines to make it our choice as bird of the month.
